The player's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
