Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered plenty of entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a hero that is literally a piece of poop striving to make its way to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, you'll face tough enemies and visit a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.

Plan your jumps carefully, as a wrong move forces restarting the level. Bounce using bubbles to hurl yourself higher, navigate disappearing surfaces, and interact with switches to open secret routes. Gather currency to purchase challenging stages in which gameplay gets crazy.

In terms of design, the game boasts eye-catching stages and catchy music score. Its minimalist graphics with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of previous releases where you are a dung character, video games have long included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references is present a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, like winning at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the complete version set to debut on computers in the fall.
