Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important political figure said the vandalism made him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
