Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
